Beautifully detailed antique ceramic floor c.1920 (CE127)

A 14.75m2 / 160 sq ft antique French ceramic floor of 14cm sq tiles, framed by a double lay half size border in black and white. The floor has been reclaimed from a town house in the Nord Pas-de-Calais region of France and its dating is based on the date of the build of the house, c.1920.

The floor design is a linked single tile tessellation and some exquisite fine detailing can be seen in the high resolution photographs presented. They are in excellent condition, a good ceramic encaustic consistent in slip. The vibrant blues, yellows and burnt red are as sharp now as they were when they left the kiln.

The floor has been completely cleaned of old mortar and wax and being ceramic can be used inside, with underfloor heating systems, or outside on a path or patio, where resistance to high and sub zero temperatures is not an issue.
