9.5m2 antique French damier style floor (CE129)
An unusual and interesting French antique damier style floor recovered from the kitchen of a house in St Quentin, Pas de Calais and dated from the early part of the twentieth century. The floor has a surface totalling 9.5m2+ / 100 sq ft+.
Two primarily black and white motifs, each created by four tiles are separated by a plain cream ceramic tile. Two options exist for laying one of the motifs and the second option has been shown separately in a photograph below. Two borders, a half and full size in mid grey, sky blue and off-white originally ran at two horizontal lengths of the room i.e the border did not frame the room completely.
The motif and plain tiles are slightly different in size, the motif tile being c.14.1cm and the plain cream 14cm, so marginally different sized joints will be required when re-laying the floor. Being ceramic they can be laid indoor or outdoor and will work with underfloor heating systems.
The floor is in good condition, full of character and has a rich patina. The photos below are representative of the whole floor which arrives cleaned and ready to relay.
