13m2+ of antique French ciments floor tiles dated 1922 (CM212)
13m2+ of 85 year old French carreaux de ciments floor tiles reclaimed from a village house in Thury, Burgundy dated 1922.
The tiles simulate a hexagonal floor layout with French carbochons (small tile inserts positioned at the corners). The tile fond is white with grey piping and the motif’s palette is sun yellow, spearmint and burgundy.
The faces of the tiles have been cleaned with an alkaline based tile restorer to remove old wax and dirt and then steam cleaned, revealing a pretty and aged patina, as the photographs show. They are therefore in their matt state and will benefit from sealing and/or waxing once laid to add lustre and protect the tiles.
Old mortar has been removed from the back of the tiles. The very small amounts remaining on the sides has not been removed as they do preclude a 2mm minimum joint re-laying.
The tiles, which are marked CP, are 20cm / 8 1/2 inches sq, 2cm thick and weigh 1.5 kgs each. Being carreaux de ciments they are suitable for indoor use only.
