Small, 9m2 / 97 sq ft ceramic encaustic floor c.1920-1930.. (CL3)
An art deco styled antique ceramic encaustic floor totalling c.9 m2 / 97 sq ft, this is a borderless floor in a palette of sky blue, off-white and mid grey with charcoal and amber also present in the motif detail and banding. Ornate in design but symetrical and easy on the eye it has been reclaimed from the dining room of a period property in Recquignies, Picardy, France along with two other floors, which also have a common period styling, and details for which can be found by clicking here and here.
Ceramic encaustic and we think produced by Winckelmans (who are one of the last great producers from the Belle Epoque still manufacturing in France now) the tiles are 16 cm sq.
The floor arrives ready to relay having cleaned well of old wax and mortar, revealing vibrant colours and a good slip. A small number of tiles display small groutable chips and edge nibbles but they have been individually quality controlled are of excellent quality.
Being ceramic encaustic they can be laid inside or outside of the home and of course can be used very efficiently with underfloor heating systems.
Total tiles, give or take one or two:- 350
