Small Maufroid Freres et Soeur gres cerame floor c.1890 (CE83)
SOLD SOLD SOLD
A 5m2 late 19th century Maufroid Freres et Soeur floor in a fond of green, brown and mushroom.
The main field tiles, of an ornate polka dotted framed motif, are 16cm sq and the ceramic is an unglazed ‘gres cerame’. There is a matching border of the same palette.
The floor has a rich patina and some tiles display small chips or nibbles expected of a floor of this age, as can be seen in the high resolution photographs below. Owing to the tiles being handmade and in batches there are variances in the hues and tones of the tile colours, most noticably on the border tiles and we have photographed three together to show this. There are capillary cracks in around 40 tiles, caused when the tiles left the kilns and the edges were exposed to a humid environment while drying. The tiles with capillary cracks are not included in the 5m2 quoted but are supplied free for you to use at will. A photo with a capillary crack can be found below.
Being ceramic they can be laid inside or outside the house and are suitable for under floor heating.
A pretty, antique floor and one full of character, well suited to a small entrance hall or bathroom.
