French antique ceramic floor tiles - green peppers and warm reds (CE155)
6m2 / 65sq ft of antique ceramic floor tiles dated c.1905 complete with original border tiles. Both the main field tiles and border tiles are 14cm sq (5 ½ inches) and offer a warm and delicately designed tessellation in the form of a vegetal entwined cross and what appears to be a green pepper themed motif. The background of the tile is an off white with the main cross in a Burgundy and there is also salmon and greens present in the colour palette.
The floor has been recovered from the kitchen of a large townhouse, dated 1905, close to Longwy in France and have been cleaned of their old lime based mortar to their sides and reverse and their faces have been cleaned of old cement traces and decades of wax.
The floor is in good condition, the patina is beautiful and the colours are as fired at the turn of the century. Being ceramic, the tiles are suitable for indoor or outdoor use and can be used with underfloor heating systems. Additionally, there are a large number of tiles with 3/4 inch chips on the underside of the tile which are supplied free for use as either offcuts or to be laid to create a floor larger than 6m2. Within the 6m2 surface there are +/- 55 border tiles with four corner pieces, totalling some 8.2 linear meters / 26.5 linear feet of borders. The photographs show the border tiles laid back to back in a double series configuration, for which the linear meterage / linear feet should be halved.
