Small classically geometric French ceramic floor with original twin borders. (CE170-3)
SOLD SOLD SOLD This small, 4m2+ / 45 sq ft, antique French ceramic encaustic floor, manufactured by Douzies Maubeuge in the early part of the twentieth century, has been reclaimed from the porch and entrance area of a maison maitre in Magnien, Cote d'Or. The floor comprises of its geometrically themed main field tile and its triple border series of one same size border tile framed by two half size borders, top and bottom. Sadly, we lost a lot of the floor when it was lifted from what was a larger area but each tile available has been quality controlled and aside occasional small chips on some tiles and edge nibbling on others, which create a pleasing antique patina, they are robust and of good quality as the high resolution photographs below show.
In a cool palette of greys, blues and charcoal piping both the main field tile and same size border are 15 cm square and +/- 1.5cm thick. There are a lot of small border tiles, in excess of 175, although no corner pieces are present and these will need to be mitre cut should they be required. Two corner pieces are available for the large border tile but again owing to the geometric purity of the design these can be mitre cut easily.
We think the floor would work well in a porch area, small entrance hall or in a small bathroom. Should you require assistance with evaluating a potential fit for your chosen area we will be happy to help without obligation. The floor arrives cleaned and ready to relay.
