2.7m2 / 29 sq ft antique ceramic St Ghislaine floor tiles (PM2)

SOLD   SOLD   SOLD  2.7m2+ of antique ceramic floor tiles produced by St Ghislaine and marked with the inscription StG. The tiles are a quality encaustic production, 1.5cm thick and with a good deep clay slip.

Dating from the beginning of the 20th century this is an ornate and shamelessly indulgent floor, tessellating in two chain linked motif’s from the two individual tiles. The design is vegetal and rich and the dominant burnt orange tile background adds warmth to reds, blues and greens. A visual feast at close quarters but a classical tessellation when viewed on a larger scale the floor is a rare find and a guaranteed conversation stopper to compliment a period house.

The tiles are in excellent condition and the colours as rich after a professional cleaning as they were when they first left the kiln. A superb floor for a small bathroom, porch, toilet or central carpet style feature.
