A stunning ceramic encaustic tile floor dated early 20th Century. The floor is superbly framed by an ornate large border tile and a latticed small border tile and is over 26.5m2 (285 sq ft+) in surface area.
The exquisite design and tessellation in cream, vieux rose, sky blue and greens is instantly recognisable as Art Nouveau, with Art Nouveau touches of free-hand swirls and delicate webbing detail apparent on both the field and large border tiles.
The main field and border tiles are 14.2cm sq (5 1/2 inches) with the small border tiles half size.
Tile quantities (give or take one or two):-
1,130 field tiles totalling 22.6m2.
144 large border tiles totalling 2.88m2 or 20.4 linear metres (67 feet)
160 half size border tiles totalling 1.6m2/17.5 sq ft or 22.7 linear metres (75 ft+)
4 x large border corner tiles 3 x small border corner tiles
The floor is completely cleaned of old wax and mortar and despite being over 100 yrs old is in good condition, as the detailed photographs display.
Amend note:- The photographs show the small border tile in duplicate. It should in fact be a single run along with the large border tile.
