9.75m2 - Classical black, white, grey antique French floor c.1890-1900 (CM23-2)

A classical French carreaux de ciments floor, dated 1890 – 1900, with original black and white harlequin same size border tiles. The field tiles are black and grey on a fond of white.

The floor surface area totals 9.75m2 / 105 sq ft and the tiles are 17cm sq / 6.7 inches.

The floor has been cleaned of old lime based mortar to the reverse and sides of the tiles and the faces have been cleaned with the professional alkaline based tile restoring product, which has left the tiles in a matt look state. The surfaces reveal a rich time aged patina and the floor will require sealing or waxing, depending on desired finish, once the floor is relaid.

This is a classical French period design, simple but geometrically pure and a photo of the same floor installed in the Maison du Village Guesthouse in St Remy, Provence is shown below for visual reference.
