13m2 Antique Belgian Maufroid Freres et Soeur ceramic floor c.1900-1910

An antique Belgian gres cerame encaustic floor complete with its original double border tiles manufactured by Maufroid Freres et Soeur c.1900-1910 and bearing on the reverse of the tiles the Maufroid rings and 'M' symbol. The floor has been reclaimed, along with a second Maufroid floor*, from a Maison Maitre being renovated in the Belgian city of Namur. The design of these 16.5cm square tiles has a strong geometric damier theme which is easy on the eye and the palette is autumnal in mustard, off white, burgundy and green.

The floor has cleaned very well, revealing a pleasing patina and excellent consistent colours. Each tile has been individually quality controlled; some display edge nibbles and groutbale chips with a few having small capilliary cracks which were formed at the time when these handmade tiles left the kiln. The floor totals 13m2 / 140 sq ft including 22.7 linear metres / 75 linear feet of borders*.

Being ceramic encaustic and highly fired the tiles are suitable for laying inside or outside of the home and are perfect companions for underfloor heating systems.

Given the size of the tiles the border series when laid in duplicate will take up c.33cms of floor surface each side and the option remains in a more confined area to lay the borders as singles. We can of course assist with evaluating the best possible layout in your chosen area, free of charge and obligation.
