Handmade antique Boch Freres octagon ceramics, late 19th century
A small number of antique handmade Boch Freres, Maubeuge, FRANCE ceramic floor tiles with their original cabochons, decoratively pleasing and perfectly practical as a floor feature or on walls as a splash-back in a kitchen or bathroom, inside a shower, a chimney hearth or sides.
The main field tile is a lattice-surfaced octagon; white with sky-blue piping, connected by a burgundy cabochon (or tile insert) which bears a floral motif in mustard. The floor offers up a simple and pure tessellation. The ceramic of these heavy 17cm / 6.8-inch, 1.75cm / 0.69-inch-thick tiles is superb, having been handmade in twin moulds around 1881. The removal of years of old mortar, dirt and wax during the restoration process now reveals tiles with crisp colours and no surface wear.
These highly fired ceramics are suitable for laying inside or outside the home.
If your surface area requirement is larger than this floor, we may have border tile options available to frame it. See the selection we have available here
